Jim and I rode to the pool this morning at 5:21 under partly cloudy skies and a bright, orange moon. We were second and third in the pool; our “hip” guy (the swimming friend who had hip replacement surgery) was already in, running laps.
After lunch we rode to a super center to look for a replacement power cord for my 2013 MacBook Pro. The sales person told me that I have to get a replacement from the Apple Store.
We also rode to 2 other retail stores on the hunt for a swimming suit for me as mine has done yeoman’s service over the last years and it’s time to be replaced. No luck - neither place had any suitable options for lap swimming.
On the way home as we rode on Staggerbrush, Jim asked, “Did you see that?” and turned his bike around. I turned, too, and rode back a few yards, and there, growing out of the mud in the road, was a clump of cat tails, defined by Texas A&M as “an aquatic perennial herb”. There is no water any where near where this plant is growing. Pretty neat.
The new Ten Minute Artist Challenge: Urban Icons should be super fun. Here’s my first Urban Icon:
I'm loving your swimming pictures, Mary - I think it's awesome that you swim when it's still dark! I don't think I've ever swum in the dark before.
Cat tails are what we call 'bullrushes' over here, also known as 'reedmace'. They look like oversized matches!
Nothing more magical than swimming in the dark. Like you're still in your dreamscape, in another dimension. Also: I saw the moon while driving home late and when I got in, one of my kids was up and I made him run with me into the field behind our house to ogle her. What a gift!
