Happy Thanksgiving Day!
Some years ago, our beloved Central Market’s bakery made squirrel-shaped cakes and cookies and displayed them in the Thanksgiving section of the bakery. Since then, the squirrel has become our Thanksgiving animal. I made the squirrel pictured below, for my daughter’s Thanksgiving Day card.
Jim and I rode to our neighborhood library to return books and a DVD early this afternoon. I love riding on holidays as traffic is almost non-existent and those out and about walking their dogs or cycling are generally in fantastic moods.
We rode via the Woodcreek Greenway to and from, and as we were exiting the Greenway on our way to the library, a dad and his 3 kids were entering on their bikes. We pulled off the path so they could pass.
There’s a narrow bridge spanning what is now a dry creek bed at the bottom of a small hill. The oldest child and the middle one crossed the bridge and made it up the hill without issue. The youngest one made it across the bridge but struggled up the hill. Her dad rode up behind her and pushed her up (while they were still riding) until she got to the top. He smiled at us and I said to Jim, “Looks like he’s done that a time or two!”
While I’m typing this, I’m smelling the wonderful smells of Thanksgiving dinner about to be consumed. I’m especially looking forward to trying a new-creation-for-me crust for our pumpkin pie, a coconut-pecan-date number that looks pretty good.
A mouth-watering post, Mary! Those squirrel-shaped biccies are adorable... 🐿️
Hope you enjoyed your dinner and pie. How did you do those squirrel shapes? Do you have a biscuit cutter thing in that shape? The first time I rode my bike with someone who was showing me some routes we went up this really steep incline. He said to me that he was impressed that I'd managed it, which I took to mean he thought I was too old and decrepit to be able to! 😂
