We have now saved more than 5000 driving miles since May 12, 2022. We’re thankful and grateful for safety and overall smooth sailing. Here’s to the next 5000.
We rode to Central Market this morning to return the Breakfast Bread we purchased yesterday. The young man at the Customer Service counter has happy to issue my refund and not too interested in why we returned it.
We walked to the bakery to speak to the Manager on Duty and a very lovely woman came out to hear our concerns. She told us that the “engineered ingredient” (aka EI) listed was not something the bakery adds to the bread but it’s in the flour they use to bake the bread. She also said that others have raised the same concern and it “was making it’s way up the ladder, management knows about it and is discussing it”. We suggested that they sticker the breads with EI so customers would be alerted to the same. She liked that idea and we thanked her for the info.
On the way out of the bakery, we read a few labels on different varieties of breads and discovered that baguettes don’t have the EI. We also checked the bags of flour we use and none of them list the EI.
From Central Market, we rode to HEB for a few ingredients for Jim’s famous Walnut Bread adapted from Jim Lahey’s book, My Bread. We rode home via the Violet Crown Trail - North and the Westcreek Greenway.
Jim is assembling his variation of Lahey’s Walnut Bread as I type this. He’s adding golden raisins, dates, and a diced Granny Smith apple and substituting pecans for the walnuts. I can’t wait to smell it baking.
FIVE THOUSAND MILES!!!! 🏆
AWESOME WORK, Mary and Jim!!! 🥳🥳
And that walnut bread is going to be sooooooo delicious.... 😋
5K!!! Truly incredible!
