The sky lightens by 6:45 am now; this morning’s riding conditions were perfect. The air felt cold and pure and very still.
Yesterday, I tried something fun: I had a pair of gap fit leggings from a thrift to cut up and use as weft on my ruglette loom. I cut off the odd cuffs at the bottom of the leggings because of the heavy seam defining them; seams don’t weave well. I put the cuffs to the side for just a second, and then I put them on my forearms. Idea #1: Perfect for cool weather riding with a t-shirt! Voila!
Idea #2: This morning as I was suiting up for my cold ride, I put the cuffs on my ankles to tuck into my socks (the cuffs, not my ankles), as there’s always about 1/2 inch of exposed skin between the top of my socks and the bottom of my long riding pants. The funny little cuffs were amazingly perfect and warm! Stylish, too. 😁
The sunrise was fantastic. I stopped to take these pics at 7:02 on the MoPac Mobility Bike and Pedestrian Bridge. The picture on the right is looking over the right side of the railing down to a path that leads to an overlook at the ravine’s edge.
I rode past lots of runners, walkers, dog-walkers, and cyclists. The running crowd on the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge was impressive: I estimate 30-40 runners crossing the opposite way I was riding, some with dogs, most without. A lot of non-runners were also on the bridge taking pictures, drinking coffee, and watching the skulling boats on Lady Bird Lake.
I had to stop at the traffic light at the corner of Cesar Chavez and Congress Ave, the only red light of the morning. Austin is sleepy and often feels like a small town.
There were less than 10 people in the office so there was little coffee to brew.
Riding-home riding conditions were pure perfection, too.
I stopped once on the bike path across from the Zilker Botanical Garden to remove my cycling jacket, but other than that, there were few places I had to stop as traffic was super light.
Closer to home, I stopped to take a picture of the the footpath that is almost taken over by weeds and wildflowers.
Late this afternoon, I rode to the library via the Westcreek Greenway to return a DVD and look for something new to watch. Such a pretty, pretty day to be out and about.
Wow, that's some ingenious clothing repurposing, Mary! You've reminded me of when I ran a 10k race one November for which my mum had knitted me a pair of beautiful sleeves out of self-striping sock wool. They were AWESOME!
Running vest (I think you call that a singlet over there) + separate sleeves = comfy runner!
A beautiful post! That sunrise! I’ve never thought of Austin Texas as sleepy! but your photos certainly make it feel much more approachable. And I love your little leggings. Great idea.
